Sandling Primary School

Pupil well-being

At Sandling Primary, we promote the positive mental health and well-being of every member of our school community. We recognise that positive mental health is essential for effective learning and attainment.

Promoting positive wellbeing in schools is essential to fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for students. Through a structured and thoughtfully designed PSHE curriculum, pupils not only gain critical knowledge but also build practical skills and emotional resilience. This comprehensive approach equips them to lead confident, healthy, and independent lives, enabling them to handle life's challenges with resilience and informed decision-making.

By integrating PSHE throughout the curriculum and reinforcing it in school activities, students develop a deeper understanding of their role within society. They learn the importance of self-awareness, empathy, and responsibility, helping them grow into well-rounded, responsible individuals.

We support the mental health and well-being of all pupils through:

  • building strong relationships centered around mutual respect
  • our school PRACTISE values
  • our three school expectations (Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Your Best)
  • provision e.g. sensory space
  • targeted pastoral and learning support
  • circle time, social stories and worry boxes
  • trained mental health first aiders
