Play Buddies
A group of Year 5 / 6 children volunteer their lunchtime once a week and spend time with Key Stage 1 and Year R children, teaching them traditional playground games such as What’s the Time Mr Wolf, Duck Duck Goose and Oranges and Lemons. They can be recognised by the yellow bibs they wear.
To become a play buddy children attend an interview with a small panel of ex-play leaders. If successful at interview the children undertake training in how to organise the games. They often have suggestions for new games to teach the younger children and are a valuable asset to lunchtimes. Each play buddy is in post for approximately a year and attends regular meetings to discuss any ideas for improving lunchtimes further.
